GOLF MARCO SIMONETHE OFFICIAL HOME OFTHE 2023 RYDER CUP

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club is the official home of the 2023 Ryder Cup. Being awarded to Italy and Rome came about following a very strong candidacy, seeing the Government offer the extraordinary support of Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and CONI with President Giovanni Malagò, the Italian Golf Federation with President Franco Chimenti, Marco Simone with President Laura Biagiotti and Vice President Lavinia Biagiotti Cigna, large business groups, sports champions and personalities, as well as an excellent operational task force. Marco Simone Golf & Country Club is an ambitious project created by entrepreneur designer Laura Biagiotti and her husband Gianni Cigna, who passed away in 1996 in his late 80s. The project was dedicated to transforming over 150 hectares of Roman countryside into 27 spectacular holes.

Moulded around the Castle Marco Simone, whose tower dates back to the year 1000, the course offers views of the St. Peter's Dome from various vantage points. Marco Simone Golf & Country Club was home to the 1994 Italian Open and has hosted numerous international competitions. “I am proud and delighted—together with my daughter Lavinia—to have brought the Ryder Cup to Italy for the first time, being the third sporting event in the world and watched by over two billion viewers. This extraordinary opportunity has come about thanks to the immense commitment and vision of the President of the Italian Golf Federation Franco Chimenti and CONI President Giovanni Malagò,” declared Laura Biagiotti.

CELEBRATING THE RYDER CUP

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, home of the 2023 Ryder Cup, celebrated the Trophy’s arrival with an extraordinary day of sport and solidarity. An exceptional performance was staged between two Ryder Cup Legends: Costantino Rocca (3 Ryder Cups) and Sam Torrance (8 Ryder Cups plus one as Captain), who competed in a 9-hole match play. President Laura Biagiotti, Vice Presidents Lavinia Biagiotti Cigna and Fabio Virgilii, with the Honorary President Nicola Pietrangeli and numerous representatives from the worlds of sport, culture and entertainment, welcomed the Trophy in the amphitheatre of the Club House with a ceremony led by journalist Massimo Caputi, which saw the young players of Marco Simone and all champions under 12 from the Region as protagonists. It was the ideal passing of the baton from the icons of golf Costantino Rocca and Sam Torrance to the young talents who represent the promising future of the Italian swing.
