The dates of the Europe-USA challenge that will take place at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club are now official.
Big steps are being taken towards the dream of Rome 2023. The countdown has begun. The 44th edition of the Ryder Cup – the third most important sports event in the world after the Olympics and the football World Cup – will be held at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Guidonia Montecelio (Rome, Italy) from 29th September to 1st October 2023, preceded by three days of build-up to the match (on Tuesday 26th September, Wednesday 27th September and Thursday 28th September).
This will be the first edition held in Italy, following events in England, Scotland, Spain, Ireland, Wales and France. The official announcement of the 2023 Ryder Cup dates came from the Ryder Cup Europe board on the same day as week-long 76th Italian Open opened (from 10th–13th October at the Olgiata Golf Club in Rome), which will see six of the twelve protagonists of the Euro-triumph in Paris 2018: Francesco Molinari, Paul Casey, Tyrrell Hatton, Alex Noren, Ian Poulter and Justin Rose. Additionally, Thomas Bjorn and Padraig Harrington, being Team Europe captains at the 2018 Ryder Cup in Paris and the 2020 Ryder Cup in Wisconsin respectively, will also hit in the field for the fifth seasonal event of the Rolex Series European Tour.

Meanwhile, the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club on the outskirts of Rome is undergoing an extensive renovation in view of the big event in 2023. The works are proceeding well whilst the images (with integrated text) offering an aerial view of the 10th, 11th and 16th holes – forming part of the nine already modelled since September 2018 and now in the phase of completion – hint at how part of the course will appear when the top players are in action. The second phase will commence this week and shall concern the remaining nine holes, which will be completed by May 2020 to allow sowing during the summer. At the same time, the Club House and driving range will be completely renovated in preparation for the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club hosting the 78th Italian Open in Autumn 2021.
European Golf Design is responsible for the restyling project for developing a world-class playing course created specifically so that all spectators may attend the 2023 Ryder Cup, with the greatest number of natural viewing points.

The official dates represent another important step in our journey towards the first Italian Ryder Cup. RYDER CUP 2023 PROJECT

The Ryder Cup 2023 Project has highlighted the inclusive character of this sport, thanks to the initiatives taken by the Italian Golf Federation such as “Golf at School”, “Golf is a Woman” and “Golf4Autism”. Now, with the events of the “Road to Rome 2023”, the Italian Ryder Cup is broadening its horizons. In 2018, the legs in Naples (Castel dell’Ovo) and Milan (where more than 2,500 people flocked to Palazzo Lombardia to try their hand at golf, thanks to a putting green located on the 39th floor) brought the green to the heart of the cities. A few days before the Italian Open in the beautiful context of Piazza di Siena in Villa Borghese, “Golf in Piazza” was staged, as the third seasonal event of the Road to Rome 2023 that transformed one of the most fascinating places in Rome into a golf course. On this day open to all, young and old could experience the emotion of the first swing at no cost. The lead-up to the Italian Open will see another important event on 9th October, with the “3rd Junior Road to the 2023 Ryder Cup” taking place at the Olgiata Golf Club, putting the young talents of Team Italy head-to-head with Team Lazio.
