THE RYDER CUP
La Ryder Cup è la più importante manifestazione internazionale di golf. Giocata negli Stati Uniti per la prima volta nel 1927, prende il nome dall’ uomo di affari inglese Samuel Ryder, che fece dono del trofeo.
Il torneo non prevede montepremi: in palio c’è la coppa e l’onore della vittoria.
La Ryder Cup mette di fronte Stati Uniti ed Europa ed è l’unica manifestazione sportiva nella quale il Vecchio Continente gareggia come squadra. Si gioca ogni due anni alternativamente in una città europea o americana.
Il 14 dicembre 2015 l’Italia si è aggiudicata il diritto di ospitare la Ryder Cup 2023. La gara si svolgerà a Roma e la sede ufficiale di gioco sarà il Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: sarà la terza volta che la più prestigiosa competizione di golf si giocherà al di fuori della Gran Bretagna (dopo l’edizione ospitata dalla Spagna nel 1997 e dalla Francia nel 2018).
The Ryder Cup takes place over six days, including three practice days and three game days, during which the top 12 European golfers and the top 12 Americans compete for the prestigious trophy. The widespread diffusion of golf around the world and the presence of the strongest European golfers ensures that the Ryder Cup is a unique event. The last edition of the Ryder Cup played in France in 2018, with over 270,000 spectators at Le Golf National, reached over 600 million homes with more than 160 countries tuning in to watch the events live on television. The Ryder Cup is thus the ideal tool for promoting a sport that boasts 65 million players worldwide, rendering it the most practised individual discipline.
